Crash.

When driving down an endless highway
Empty highway
Vacant like a closed department store
I accepted a dare

We closed our eyes
Before my eyes open a tree stopped us

Scents of iron, vodka, cigarettes
Cotton candy shampoo, fuel
Smoke, Coolant, burnt flesh

We pant, exhaled, breathed again
Cuts, gauges, a missing limb
Death nearby

The car is still running
We pull into reverse
Out onto the never ending highway

Then...
We see dawn break
Beyond the vacancy behind us.
